How is your business growing?
Do you reach your goals easily or feel like you could be doing better?
When I speak with female entrepreneurs about building and growing their businesses, I often get the same response. They tell me that they love what they are doing and have ambitious plans for the future but they don’t exactly know how to get there.
They have built their business on their strengths and have a lot of professional expertise to share. They work hard but still something seems to be missing. They feel confused about how to market their business and get more clients.Often they end up doubting themselves and wondering 'Do I really have what it takes?'
Through my experience as a business coach and entrepreneur, I’ve found that the problem for most female entrepreneurs isn’t their level of expertise nor their experience.
The problem is that they've skipped a crucial step in the beginning of their business set-up: getting clear about their values, passions and purpose.
When entrepreneurs start a business without clarity around their values, passions and purpose, they limited their future growth and success. Here's why...
Why values matter when growing your business
If you haven’t given much thought to your values and purpose, don’t feel bad. Many entrepreneurs miss this step. But, when they work on these foundations, things usually start to shift very quickly for their businesses.
Start by asking yourself, what matters to you the most. What are you really passionate about? What kind of impact do you want to make in the world and what do you want to help your clients achieve?
This understanding becomes your business compass. It will help you make better decisions, identify which opportunities are meaningful for you, and which ones will support you in growing your business.
Enduring business is based on values
Let’s take an example: You’ve launched your business to have a flexible schedule and spend more time with your family. Then you hear about a new launch method that could really nudge your business forward. You learn everything about it, follow the method to a T and harvest nice profits from your launch.
However, by the end of the process you find yourself depleted of energy. The mere thought of having to do the same again in a few weeks makes you cringe and sigh in exhaustion. The problem is not the method itself but the fact it wasn’t aligned with your foundation, and for this reason it won’t help you create growth and lasting success.
On the other hand, when you have clarity about what matters to you most, you’ll be able to choose methods and strategies that align with these goals and your preferred ways of working. This creates sustainable wins instead of quick ones.
Growing a business your clients will love
Creating long-term success for yourself is one thing but, even more importantly, understanding your values and purpose will help you serve your clients better, too. When you have clarity about your business foundation, you start attracting clients who appreciate what you have to offer. You’ll be able to create a unique client experience that serves your clients better.
They will fall in love with your business, too, and ultimately, this contributes to your business success through positive reviews and referrals.

Where to start the work?
Working on your values and purpose might seem time-consuming and frustrating at first. If you’ve been in business for a while, it might even feel like taking a step backwards, but the work is worth doing.
A great thing about knowing your values and purpose is that they stay with you as your business grows. They rarely change, even when you pivot your business, launch new products or services or even change your business model completely. When you answer these questions early on, they lead to years and decades of success.
You owe yourself support
It’s not always easy to do this work alone. If you do, you can quickly start second-guessing yourself and going in circles.
